This whole thing started kind of by chance. We were sitting in a bar, me and Valentina, talking about a completely different photoshoot, and at some point she told me she was into Doronjo, the antagonist character from the ’70s Japanese anime Yatterman, which I’d never actually watched as a kid.

Doronjo is a villainous femme fatale, narcissistic, manipulative and completely obsessed with her own beauty and her desire to be admired. That’s what intrigued me.

So yeah, I said, let’s bring Doronjo into my world, but I didn’t want this to be a cosplay catalogue. I wanted to take her narcissistic aspect and push it further. Here Doronjo became a woman trapped in a relationship with her own reflection and the power it gives her. She desires herself, seduces herself, contemplates herself, and merges with herself.
